Today’s Coaching Tip: Choose Joy. Live Joy. Decide today to have a life filled with joy and success. It really comes down to the simplicity of choice.  If you woke up today and felt that joy and success were elusive to you, you can start right now to shift. But first, let’s answer, why joy? Why is it so important to live each day with joy? A joy filled heart brings everything good into your life, so if you look around and see negative results- you can start shifting by deciding to see what it is that fills you with joy and appreciation. Write your top ten joy list and look at it frequently throughout the day. When you live in joy- you are like one big magnet for success. If you doubt this think about the last time you wanted to rally around an unhappy, negative person? Probably, never.  So, if you want more success, feel more joy. Pretty simple and beautiful. I have to offers for you- one free and one special.

I always try to choose to be happy soon as I wake up. I know that my day will go good depending on my attirtude. I can choose to be happy and that will also help others because it’s catchy when you smile. When you see someone smiling, it just makes you feel good. If your miserable, than your day is going to go bad because of the way your seeing it. I love your article though, it’s really inspiring! Thank you! Lisa Palmer~

    1. Thank you Lisa. Starting a day with gratitude truly does make a difference- that is how I wake up every day… deliberately choosing happiness and appreciation. I appreciate that you point out how then it makes a difference to others.

  2. Thank you Sheri for the MP3. It is amazing how we can be happy and then there is that one single event that occurs that can snap our moods in an instant. It is so important though to move on quickly and replace those negative thoughts with positive ones.

    1. Hi Nancy,
I agree and so many times people feel that joy is dependent on outside events… when that upsetting event occurs- if we have something in place- say- a joy toolbox- where you automatically reach for a book of quotes, a special cd, your journal, etc… it does turn things around more quickly:)

  3. Thank you, Sheri, for inspiring us to feel more joy. Your suggestion to make a top ten list is practical. What if somebody has forgotten what makes them feel joy? That was the case for me a few years ago. And unfortunately, I think it’s the same for some of the stepmoms I associate with. The thought of “deciding” joy made sense, but was difficult at first. It took some time for me to ‘figure out’ what would bring me joy. I love your reminder that it’s possible and that it can be simple.

    1. Hi Judy,
I can relate- I have been a step mom for almost 20 years… I think we tend to make joy complicated… when making your top ten list… you can write simple things like the sunrise, a hot cup of coffee or cocoa, comfy pillows, a smile from the cashier at the grocery store… when I have gone through difficult times- this is what I did- take my life down to the micro level and even be thankful for the breath that I take… it does work and continuously doing a joy/gratitude/appreciation list builds up over time and joy and happiness seems to come easier:)

  4. Who thinks it is not that easy?
If you think you have to work hard at feeling joyous, Sheri has several books that can help you work through that.
Search for her books on Amazon. They are available for your Kindle as well.
Thanks Sheri, 10 days to go and you are giving out presents already. Hahoo!

  5. I start every day with a “good morning and “thank you for the new day” to my Jesus. The rest of the day is nearly always joyful. When bad things do come about though, I know where to go for comfort, for renewing, for peace…and ultimately a return to joy. Every day is a blessing.

I definitely had to learn how to choose joy, and sometimes I still need some practice. When something has upset me, I generally find that reading or listening to something inspirational or enjoying a beautiful piece of music or spending some time playing with my cat will turn my mood around. I also have a folder of favorite jokes saved on my computer and some humorous videos saved on YouTube, so it’s always easy to find something to make me laugh. Since I started doing this, it has definitely made a difference in my mood and my health, and I know that it will ripple through other areas of my life.

    1. Hi Lorena,
Thank you for your tips and suggestions. My cat seems to know when I need her- she jumps in my lap exactly when I need a snuggle. And when I cry- my dog presses her body so close to me- she almost knocks me over. (I have a German Shepherd). I love how animals love unconditionally and are so loyal.

I try to live in joy most of the time, when I get down I have an e-mail folder called inspiration that I turn to, it has all positive videos, meditations, songs etc. that always get me back into joy. Gratitude works well for me too- can’t be grateful without being joyful 🙂
