Today’s Coaching Tip:  Inner Happiness

This tip today is from one of my most popular articles I have ever written- it has been excerpted in books, reblogged, and cited. I thought it was worth it to share with you today:

“…Inner happiness actually is the fuel for success” Dr, John Hagelin

You might feel like you are doing and thinking the right things- maybe you have a goal poster, affirmations, a strong vision, and you are action oriented- but you have some goals that seem to remain elusive. There are a few things you can consider- one is that the joy and happiness needs to be in place first- two is that you may have a limiting belief in play (I am not worthy, I don’t deserve this, etc),and three – you may need to expand your capacity to receive.

Create your happiness first. Feel good and think good thoughts. Sounds simple- but in reality is challenging for many. You can raise your level of happiness with techniques like using an appreciation journal, be loving, moving your body, listening to music, meditating, prayer, getting close to nature, refusing to indulge in things like complaining, circular thinking, worrying. The more you practice these techniques- the more you will notice higher levels of happiness in your life.

Release limiting beliefs. The first part to releasing limiting beliefs is to be able to recognize them. Use your emotions to help you see limiting beliefs. If you are feeling “bad” you often have a limiting belief that is in play. The belief might be some version of “I am not worthy” of “good things never last” and the list could go on. Recognizing the limiting belief is sometimes enough to release it. Other times- a belief can hang on stubbornly. In these cases, you can write down all of the thoughts and feelings you have around that belief. Then tear it up and rewrite the situation  and thoughts  the way that you want them to be. Fold up the paper and carry it with you in your wallet and read it often. When you release a limiting belief- you feel freedom and create room for manifesting your goals.

Expand your capacity to receive. Do you have trouble accepting gifts? Do you say “Oh, you shouldn’t have” instead of “thank you” when someone presents you with a gift?  Maybe you love giving, but have a hard time accepting gifts. This is an area where I have struggled. Here is a fun exercise. Write down one of your goals. Then write down- I am receiving (your goal) now. Do this for each aspect of your goals or vision statements. Notice your feelings and thoughts as you do this. Do you feel a shift in your energy?

Practice cultivating happiness, release limiting beliefs, and expand your capacity to receive. You will begin to see those elusive goals manifest in your life.

  1. Thanks Sheri! What a great call this is from the archives and a great reminderer for me. Thank you. I certainly have achieved many successes from being a present member of Success club and I am very grateful 🙂

I guess I just don’t say “Thank You” enough. The appreciation journal is a great idea to implement right now – I already have the journal, just never took the time to fill it up. I also like the Release Limiting Beliefs exercises. I have a lot to do.
    Thanks!

I agree with the others about the appreciation journal. When I found my current full-time job I was kind of bummed about the amount of money I’m making compared to my last job. But then I started an appreciation journal, and man what a difference in my thought process.

I’ve been thinking lately that I need to get back to writing in my appreciation journal because my thinking is kind of stinking. So this was a very timely and gentle reminder for me. Thanks so much.

    1. Thanks Laura- what I love about you is that you are aware to see where you can make shifts and changes… I am positive that your thinking will shift to a more positive place – by putting your good habits back into place:)

  4. I can see what this was so popular and cited so many times. I struggled with these a lot. I’m happy to say I’ve come a long way. At the same time, I think it’s an ongoing journey.

I’ve found that the more challenging the personal situation, the more challenging it is to maintain gratitude for EVERYTHING and raise your vibration. For this, most people NEED another person who is already vibrating higher to help. That’s what helped me the most. You are one of those people, Sheri, who vibrate high and are able to shift people to a more positive state. I’m happy that you are. It’s so very valuable! 🙂

    Namaste,
    Judy

    1. Thank you, Judy. You are right- it is easy to be filled with gratitude when things seem to be going smoothly – but when we are challenged- that is the true test of our practices and tools. I appreciate your kindness.

Thank you for all of the great tips that you have been posting. I have made good progress on creating my happiness and expanding my capacity to receive, but I think limiting beliefs still trip me up fairly often. I will try your exercise for releasing limiting beliefs.

  6. Germaine

Terrific tips, esp. the one on receiving. I needed that one the most. I listen to webinars/ telesummits to get rid of limiting beliefs; there’s so many gifted speakers now a days.
