Success Depends on This

What you need to almost guarantee success is burning desire. Authors W. Clement Stone and Napoleon Hill assure us that without burning desire, you will not achieve a high level of success. Burning desire is a rare thing. Most people do not dare to cultivate a burning desire for anything because the second you allow a burning desire, there a fears that get churned up. “What if I can’t do it?” or “I don’t know how to make it happen.” or “What will people think?” are some fear related thoughts that may arise for you.

Why is it important to cultivate burning desire for your goal or goals? Burning desire is what carries you through when things go wrong or very, very slow. Burning desire keeps you going. Without burning desire you could end up stopping just when things are about to break open. Burning desire assures that you will cross the finish line.

If you have a goal and you feel like you have lost that burning desire or never really had it in the first place, what do you need to do to get it?  First, look at the real reason, the real why. This is why you want the goal. What difference will your dream make in your life and the lives of others?  Next, let yourself be filled with burning desire. Think about your goals as if they are really happening. See yourself achieving each phase of the goal. What does that feel like? Be the energy of your goal. It takes some practice, but as everyone who has ever achieved worthwhile goals realizes- it is worth the effort.

Goals- When Fast is Better than Slow

Do you think it has to take a long time to achieve your goals? What if you could manifest your goals fast- like right away, now, today? In order to manifest your goals fast, you need first make a paradigm shift. Instead of thinking that it takes a long time to achieve goals, what if it were just as likely that you could achieve your goals fast?  Remember time is a man-made concept.

Success

Often, fast is good. The reason fast is better than slow, is that momentum is on your side. Think about the time you decided that today is the day you clean your garage, basement, etc., after waiting for weeks or even months. You get going- and a few hours later, you are done. You wonder why you spent months thinking about doing it or even doing little bits and pieces of the job.

Here is another example. I enjoy writing. I write when I am inspired and I easily write several hundred words without feeling it is difficult. One weekend, I decided to challenge myself and see how much I could write over the two day weekend. I wrote over 18000 words. It didn’t feel hard. I still went out for dinner, washed clothes, and had time to relax. This was, by far, the most I had written over two days.

And one more example, when I lived in Wisconsin after I was first married, we owned a very large lot along with our house. We had two garages- a brand new garage, and an old, rickety garage. We could not tear down the old garage because it was right on the property line and if we tore it down, we would not be able to rebuild. For two years I stared at that garage. It had several decade’s worth of peeling paint.

Finally, I decided I was going to do something about it. I had never painted anything. I researched how to do everything and gathered my supplies.  My neighbors laughed at me because I was trying to rescue something so old and dilapidated.  My daughter Sonja was a year old and refused to stay in her playpen outside. So I scraped paint while holding her in one arm- for one whole day. Then I primed the next day- for the whole day (holding her in one arm). The third day, I painted the whole day (with my daughter in one arm).  I set my daughter down once- and she ran through the paint pan and I had little colored footprints on the sidewalk. I did not feel tired.  I was energized even though my arms ached. The 4th day, I had new garage doors installed with openers.  A few weeks later,  a relative stopped by and asked when we replaced the old garage and put up a new garage. She was in disbelief when my husband said, “Sheri painted it.” I know that if I had stopped at any point, the project would have bogged down and I could have been looking at an incomplete, half done job for another two years.

Four Words that Kill Your Success

Four words that kill your success- “I think I’ll wait.”

How many times have you received terrific intuitive guidance and great ideas for the next move or steps in your life… you get excited- you do some research… and then fear pops in and you stop in your tracks and decide- “well I am comfy right here, right now” and you put it off again. Ask yourself- if I keep on doing what I am doing right now- where will I be in six months? a year? two years? 5 years? Yes, I have talked with people who have played the waiting game with their goals for 5 or more years. Be courageous… do something today to move you closer to the life you really want.

All you need is to act on one good choice and you will create an energetic movement in your life that results in many good decisions. What is that one good choice for you right now? What is your catalyst. Take a few minutes and write down what you want… then look at it- and write down what you really, really want- it is not always what you think at first.

For example- a person might say- I want to make more money- but what does that mean? More money could be an extra $50 a month- or more money could mean enough money to go beyond struggling- beyond survival mode- and into more than enough- a money place where you can breathe easily and take on the projects that you want to do in life. See the difference.

Take a few minutes to get really clear about what you really, really want… then (you probably guessed what I am going to say next) act on it. Take action.

Day 7 Jump Start Raise Your Energy

Welcome to January’s 7 Day Jump Start (you can use this Jump Start anytime you feel like you need to get back on track and find the lightness and happiness in your life- it doesn’t have to be at the start of the New Year). Each Day – I will feature a jump start tip/activity/exercise to help you really get your energy moving and bring you closer to your goals. Today we are on Day 7- you can still start with Day 1.

Day 7 . To achieve a goal- your energy needs to be vibrating at the same level as your goal. Sometimes you might feel spiritually or mentally exhausted- and then you wonder-” how can I raise my energy level so I can magnetize my goals, if I just feel so scattered and worn out?” .  You can begin to shift by using a physical approach. Boost your energy by moving your body.  It doesn’t really matter how you move it- stretching , running, walking, dancing, etc- even just ten minutes will shift your energy to a higher level. You will clear out congestion, create balance and alignment, and raise your energy.

If someone said to you, “If you just move your body for ten minutes a day- you will achieve more of all types of your goals (not just the fitness related goals).” Would you do it? If someone said- “you will make more money, have better relationships, or create the career or biz of your dreams- if you just move your body for ten minutes a day” Would you do it?

To achieve more, we need to energetically be at the the level of our dreams.

Right now… you can begin moving and commit to movement every day- not just as a way to look better- but as part of the overall picture of raising your entire energy vibration level. You can make this fun, too by adding new types of movement- try a video, a class or a one on one session with an expert.

Today’s Coaching Tip: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow.

Imagine if you heard on the weather report that there was a 98% chance of snow. Would you resist the snow? – tell the snow it cannot happen? – Would you excessively worry about the certainty of snow? or would you make sure that you had food, shelter, and safe travel arrangements?  You would let it snow… as if there were any other choice. You would accept the snow- you wouldn’t wonder what you had done wrong to make it snow.

In much the same way, we can let go of resistance in our lives. What do I mean by resistance? Have you ever uttered or even yelled the words- “This can’t be happening.”  or maybe you go to work every day in a negative work environment and you rail against it and take every opportunity to complain about it. This is resistance.  When you let go of resistance/push back and accept your current circumstances, you free up energy to actually think clearly and make good decisions to create positive change.

Zap the Procrastination Bug Guest Blog

Please enjoy this guest blog from my friend and colleague, Chantal Beaupre:

Did you ever feel like you wanted to join the Procrastinator’s Club, but never quite got around to it? At some point in time, procrastination plagues us all, some more than others, but everyone at some point gets a bite from the bug.

We’ve all heard the quote, “Why put off till tomorrow what you can do today?” For some of us, this is the only motivation we really need – while others struggle with putting things off for weeks, months, or even years.

Procrastination doesn’t have to be a way of life for you; you can overcome it. With a little focus and a rational, self-helping attitude, coupled with some practical tips and techniques, procrastination can be a thing of the past.

Here are five strategies you can use today to help you bite the procrastination bug back:

1. Set small goals. Many times, we feel overwhelmed with a task, so we continue to put it off until we have no choice but to complete it.

Now throw on all the new projects we received while we were putting off the first project, and we have a prime equation for some serious procrastination.

Setting small, quickly achievable goals can help you avoid procrastinating in the first place so you don’t get overwhelmed. Here are some tips for setting those small goals:

  • Break your big project up into smaller steps. These steps can be completed systematically one at a time. Make sure you have well-defined end points for each smaller goal; that way you have something to keep you going.
  • Setting small goals most likely provides you with a feeling of accomplishment as they’re attained. With each individual success, you feel better about what you were able to achieve, and this helps to motivate you to continue.
  • Giving yourself break points allows you to focus on each individual task and helps taking the overwhelming feeling out of the job. In addition, they give you a prime place to get up, move around, and refresh yourself for the next step.

2. Avoid distractions. We all do it. We sit down to start working, but have to get back up and grab some coffee. Then we sit back down and check email, then voice mail, and then email again just to make sure no one sent a message while we were checking the voice mail. How long did that take?

Try checking your email only twice a day instead of every five minutes. You most definitely want to give yourself some time to focus!

Get everything you want, need, or think you might need before you sit down to start working so you can concentrate.

3. Delegate. Start giving some of your responsibilities to others instead of hogging them for yourself and creating more anxiety in the process. Anxiety leads to procrastination, procrastination leads to tight deadlines, and tight deadlines most often lead to more anxiety; it’s a vicious cycle.

4. Keep a list. A constant reminder of the things you really want to do is a great way to avoid procrastination. A small pocket notebook or even a note card works wonders for list keeping.

Keeping a list puts your daily to-dos in front of you at all times for quick reference.

Include your small goals on your list. Get started early each day completing those small, easy goals. Doesn’t it feel great to scratch through the things you’ve completed? Before you know it, the whole list is marked off!

5. Turn it off. When you’re done for the day, shut down everything work related. Don’t take it home if you can help it. Turn your brain off at the end of your workday. By giving your brain a break, you help avoid over exhaustion and keep your mind fresh for the next day.

Spend some time doing the things you love to recharge your batteries for the next day.

Pick one or two of these techniques and try them out for three weeks. Studies have shown it takes 21 days to form a habit and if you truly want to beat procrastination, you have to make productivity a habit.

When you’ve made a habit of one of the strategies, pick out another one, and before you know it, you’ll be the personification of productive!

Get Inspired for the Rest of 2012

The Final Push..

Okay- so it isn’t really the final push. It is the last quarter of 2012… and there will be (I believe) a 2013. If you listen to the news… the outlook is dismal about the economy, world and local politics, and there is every reason to be utterly depressed. But you know what? Of my 40 + years listening to the news… guess what it has mostly been?… dismal. Step out of the belief that the system (whether locally, nationally, or the world) has control over you. Instead, ask yourself…

“What inspired action can I take to be empowered and to create positive change in my life and those around me? “

Create a list… and start taking action- start moving.

Be thankful for everything , every day… even the smallest things.

Dream Big… who else will dream big about your life (besides your mom)?

Ask… what if? What if things were working out exactly the way I want… what would that look like?

And… don’t give up…as long as you keep your goals and dreams alive… you are making progress.
