Blast Through Clutter to Clear Your Blocks

When you are struggling and clear thinking seems like an impossibility, clearing physical clutter can give you sharp, focused thinking. Maybe you are working on a project and you feel stalled or maybe you have been dealing with writer’s block or creativity blocks. It is frustrating, I know. But there is a speedy method to get you back on track.

Instead of trying to think your way out of it, “do” your way out of it. Take on an unrelated task that you can finish in a reasonable amount of time. For example, clean out and wash your car, clean out a closet, clean out and organize a dresser drawer, clean off the top of your desk, clean out a file… even just one file, or organize your silverware drawer… choose any task where you can go from chaos or disorganization to clean, pristine, and organized.

This simple technique brings amazing calm, clear focus to your mind. I use this technique when I feel my concentration or creativity fading. Upon completion of my organizing task, I find myself able to solve mental puzzles and come up with creative solutions. My mind appreciates the new order and I find it to be freeing and liberating.

A Big Picture is Key to Success

Paint a glorious big picture for your life. I think of a Thomas Kinkade painting with color, emotion, and detail. Of course you actually could paint for real, but for many of us we will be painting our big picture in our imaginations.

In your Big Picture… portray yourself as a master manifestor- as someone who is able to realize goals and dreams. If you are having trouble with this, remember a time in your life when you did set a goal and created something- and it actually happened- an event, a thing, etc. Maybe it was a dream job or dream vacation. Maybe you have several events to pull from. The point is that if you were able to do this in your life, there is no difference now… you still are a great manifestor.

See your big picture as attainable and easy- peasy to bring forward into your life. You can do it…

2012 is a year to Be BOLD.

Merry Christmas: Wishing you success and joy as we near the end of 2011 and move closer to 2012.

I have been having a fabulous time with the 12 Days of Christmas Coaching Tips – If you missed some of them- you can check them out on my blog . And I thought I was dreaming of a white Christmas- but I am not dreaming anymore (see pics to the right).

I have been reflecting on 2011 and the common theme is that I am in love with what I do every day. I feel so much love for each of my clients, my coaching groups, and my subscribers. Thank you, you have played a vital role in creating the lovefest that I have been experiencing in the month of December and really throughout alll of 2011.

Methods to Priortize Your Goals and Tasks

Here are some popular methods for prioritizing your days as you go into implementing your plan for 2012.

Methods for Setting Priorities and Planning

80/20 rule: According to Richard Koch 80% of the results come from 20% of a person’s to-do list. If you have a list of ten things, select your top two to make sure that they get done during the day.

A, B, C : Make your list and assign priorities A for the most important, B for the next , and C for the least. Work on your A items first. Then B, etc. If an item on your list is consistently a C item and remains on your list unaccomplished for days, consider removing the item from your list or reassign the priority level.

1, 2, 3: This is the same idea as A, B, C but using numbers instead

Yes, no, maybe: Assign values to your to do list based on: yes, I must do this today; maybe I will do this today; or no I will not do this today.

Covey’ s 4 Quadrants. (from Seven Habits for Highly Effective People). Quadrant one is urgent and important tasks (deadline driven projects). Quadrant 2 is important but not urgent tasks (long range planning, long range goals that add immense value but the payoff is farther down the road). Quadrant three is urgent but not important tasks (interruptions) and Quadrant 4 is not urgent and not important tasks (time wasters). The goal is to spend the majority of time in Quadrant 2 and then Quadrant 1.

6 Most Important Things to Do List: Make a list of your six most important things to do each day. As each is accomplished , cross it off the list. If anything is left on the list, it goes on the next day’s list and stays on the list until accomplished or priorities change. ( I first learned about this in a book written by Mary Kay Ash).

The above methods are suggestions to get you started, pick one that seems workable and suited to your style and your life.

Whatever you decide to use, the idea is that a person needs to be able to decide what is important and act on that rather than being paralyzed by a huge unmanageable list.
