Please enjoy this excerpt from my new ebook Be the Inspiration: 7 Ways to Inspire Your World
“You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.” – Winston Churchill
“Do you feel a pull to do and be more?
Is it important to you to be able to inspire yourself and those around you?
Do you want to be more effective and impactful in your career or business?
Does your level of personal and team leadership influence your income?
It is important to be inspired, to feed our souls on a daily basis. Once you become adept at knowing what inspires you personally, then the next natural move is to inspire the world around you. This is the time when you help others transform through your message, your example.
Ask yourself, what can I teach? How can I lead? How can I inspire? Who can I inspire? This is a time for mentoring and giving back. You do have something that is uniquely you… that can help those around you… your job is to find out what that is and make a commitment to truly BE the Inspiration.
This book- BE the Inspiration: 7 Ways to Inspire Your World is designed to take you from getting inspired personally to becoming the inspiration to those around you. Learn what it takes to become an inspiring leader so you can grow your business, become a leader in your profession, lead a program, make a difference and/or become a thought leader. Learn how to use your personal development story to create a meaningful and inspiring platform.
Through the use the acronym INSPIRE and you will learn key components of explosive personal and leadership growth.
What do I mean when I say- “Be the inspiration”?
There is a difference between getting inspired personally (yes we do need to that, we need to take care of ourselves, but there is more). There comes a point in life when we are not only interested in being inspired personally, but we start reaching out and inspiring other people, either through examples, through programs we run or the job that we have, or the goals that we have, and your life becomes more than just about you as an individual.
Being the inspiration- is the way that we lift up the people around us. It is the way that we get our message across and it is the way that we grow. Maybe you have a business or you are working in a company or you want to start something new, or maybe you lead a non- profit. It becomes important for you to have strategies and ways of being in place to be effective at and that is what I am going to share with you in this book, Be the Inspiration: 7 Ways to Inspire Your World.
By reading this book- you will be able to get tools and techniques that you can use right away. Upon reading this book, you might decide that you want to continue this conversation with me and I am going to tell you how you can do that and I am also going to offer you something special, too.
As we get started… I would love for you to set an intention for this book. I am a big fan of setting an intention for every experience in my life and I like to have my clients do it, too. So if you could hold for yourself, a space for your intention for reading this book – that would be fantastic.
Hold your hand over your heart… and ask:
What is my intention?
What specific piece do I want to learn?
Do I want to be inspired? Motivated?
Whatever it is for you personally- Set your intention. In my book, Living Successfully and Joyfully Every Day: 90 Days of Inspiration- I talk about the importance of consciousness…and when we set an intention we are making a conscious choice.
For example, your intention might be getting motivated to act, and/or it might be getting clarity on a goal.
Some people who have heard and or read the concepts included in this book experienced clarity around the program that they wanted to start or their next steps to take in their lives.
So go ahead and set an intention for yourself.
I want you to know that you do have the power and ability to overcome obstacles and not only achieve your dreams, but live successfully and joyfully every day.
Let’s dive in, let’s talk about the acronym INSPIRE…”
I hope you enjoyed this excerpt…

Yesterday, I talked about mindmapping as a creativity technique. Today, I want to continue the conversation. Whether you are a blogger, an author, a small biz owner, a professional, a stay at home mom or dad, a coach, a consultant, and so on…there are many times when you will need to bring creativity to a project.
Here is what usually happens during brainstorming…someone starts a list and immediately begins the mind chatter of…”Oh that won’t work”…or “so and so tried it already”…etc. This prejudging really gets in the way of creative brainstorming. And often in teams, other team members will weigh in negatively on others’ ideas, which stifles the creative flow. Who wants to keep offering suggestions when every single one is shot down?
The point of brainstorming is to come up with multiple ideas. So when you decide on a brainstorming session when you are by yourself, make sure you write fast and do not engage in any judgments or evaluations until you are done with your list. If you are brainstorming as a team, it is helpful to pass the pen around. Maybe have someone write down one idea, then pass the sheet of paper to the next person who writes down one idea. Write quickly. Keep going for a set amount of time- maybe ten minutes. Set the rule that there is no talking during this process. Team brainstorming in this manner ensures that introverts are able to contribute equally. The overall project will benefit the most through everyone’s input.
When you get to the evaluation stage of the brainstormed ideas, don’t limit yourself to just the list, sometimes the list will inspire other ideas. Another common way that people engage in brainstorming that is not effective is that they automatically take the first list and everyone votes on which idea they like best. You still may not have the best idea or solution, so allowing expansion on the first run of brainstorming often generates more and even better ideas.
I would love to hear about your brainstorming techniques.
Warmest,
Sheri Kaye Hoff, MA, CGCL, Life Coach, Author, College Professor
Here you go, you have a task, a project…something that is a “must do” for you. And you’ve got…nothing…zero ideas…you feel, maybe even, empty. This is when mindmapping can become a great catalyst for creativity. Start with your project or task theme written in the middle of a huge poster board or piece of big paper. Draw a circle around your theme. So for instance, for me it might be the word “joy”. Then brainstorm anything that comes to your mind regarding “joy”- don’t think-(happiness, bliss, success, positivity, hard to find, easy to find, smiles- just to name a few) just write- each word related to “joy” will have a spoke to it and then a circle around your new word. Then as words and ideas come to you regarding the other words you have written down- you will have more spokes and circles. (examples of other words related to success: goals, money, things, achievement, vision, elusive, hard to define, different meanings for different people). You get the idea.
This technique actually works great for teams, too. You work at the same time with different colored markers and on the same piece of paper. There is no judging- just writing. It also helps to set a time- maybe five minutes- so you don’t overthink.
Then you (and your team- if you are working with a team) can evaluate your mind map- see the connections- see the ideas. This is a great technique for brainstorming a book idea, too. If you are struggling with getting going on a project, try mindmapping today.

Sheri Kaye Hoff

Though most of my writing is non-fiction, I wanted to share this short story with you (this story has been featured on authorsden, associatedcontent, and inthe ebook compilations of short stories for Hasmark Services.
Follow Star Skater Carrie Olan from tragedy to the edge of love…
Blades swished on the ice and sprayed light snow in the air as Carrie ended her practice session. The five foot three inch brunette, shook loose her pony tail as she stepped off the ice. Her legs shook from the hard practice session and she was breathing deeply. Sectionals were not too far away and this was the time to push, push, and push. Or so her coach was always saying to the skating pair. Carrie’s thoughts flickered to Carl and his long illness. She hoped and prayed he would be back on the ice in time for competition. Though- she despised the stereotype of the “cute brother/sister team”; they really did make a great team. He was disciplined and focused, while she was showy and fun, which created the balance that had made them the up and coming pairs team on the level of great pairs teams like Tai and Randy and Kitty and Peter.
The Carl and Carrie Olan pair’s success had been clouded recently by Carl’s extended illness. At first, it just seemed like a long cold, and then he became weak and lethargic. The diagnosis turned to Mono and six weeks off the ice. Carrie tried to train alone, but it was not the same. She worked diligently to cheer up her brother and even cooked some of his favorite dishes like home made chili and home made lasagna. Carrie tried not to worry, but for the nineteen year old, the idea of missing skating competition seemed like the end of the world.
Carrie slipped on her skate guards, making sure to protect her expensive blades, and strode over to the locker room while she thought about their costumes. She would use black, red and gold—bold colors to go with their bold routine. She designed the costumes herself even though she could have easily gone with one of the many experts. Her sponsors would willingly pay for it, but the petite brunette loved being involved in every detail of her skating world. The legendary pianist and composer Jonas Mann composed the bold, daring music specifically for her. Her coach Lori Land insisted this was the way to go. The music played hauntingly in Carrie’s dreams at night creating a connection to the composer even though they had not met. She knew Jonas was 37, had never been married, and he was known worldwide for his liaisons with starlets. His dark hair, held back in a ponytail, smoldering dark brown eyes, broad shoulders, and a firm jaw line, softened by that dimple in his chin, yes—he was any woman’s dream. Carrie thought he looked stoic, but sad in most of his media pics. She sighed, maybe we will meet some day, she thought.
The cold spray of the locker room shower jolted her out of her thoughtful mood. Gees, she thought, when are they going to get a new water heater at this rink? The New Town rink looked good, but there definitely was room for improvement. I have got to get out of Minnesota, Carrie mused. New Town, a recent suburb development north of Minneapolis had attracted many families and businesses, but Carrie longed for adventure. She thought ahead to future days with skating shows and a possible sports media career. “I just have to put in the hard, physical work now and it will pay off later”.
She quickly dressed in her jeans and a sweater. As she left the rink she called out a good bye to her favorite Zambonie driver, Rick. Carrie flashed her famous smile and her green gold eyes glittered with appreciation for his hard work to make the ice flawless for her. She zipped her ski jacket, pulled on mittens, and braced herself against the bitter January wind.
A short two blocks walk through the snow and Carrie arrived at her brick trimmed town home. She and Carl were renting the town home to be close to the rink. Their parents still lived in the city. Carrie tried the door and it was locked. Damn, she thought, and searched for her key. Finally, at the bottom of her handbag, she felt her key ring. Whew, she definitely did not want to crawl through a window, again. As she opened the door, music trailed through the house. The warm heat of the apartment welcomed her in the door. Carrie recognized the music and remembered one of their pair’s routines with a smile. Once inside, she thought instantly of food. Bananas and chocolate milk were her two favorites after a long practice. Gulping the milk, she felt some energy return. Carrie looked around the kitchen at the modern wood and marble fixtures that were typical of the development.
I have got to put up a few decorations, she chided herself, the place would look more homey.
“Carl”, she called out and received no answer. Click Here to Read More
