Finding Strength and Trust in the Cycle of Change

I would like to introduce you to Lisa Michaels, she is our Your Path to Success Telesummit presenter on April 15…she provided me with a superb article which I am passing on to you:

Finding Strength and Trust in the Cycle of Change

By Lisa Michaels

In ordinary times, the natural flow of constant change in our lives is gradual and often barely noticed. Just like the subtle physical changes from 30 to 40, the move from one home to another, or one season to the next, you flow through the changes without giving them much attention. You can even trust in the transition to death if it comes to those around you from old age, as you expect it. You experience the loss, heal, and then go on with life. You know instinctively and from experience that the nature of life around you constantly moves and expresses in rhythms and cycles.

What shakes up trust, comfort, and security is sudden change. Walking into the office one day only to find out you don’t have a job anymore, your mate delivering divorce papers when they haven’t discussed it with you, an accident or event that abruptly changes your life, or finding yourself in the middle of a natural disaster. It’s one thing when you want a change, to release what you are ready to let go of, but to be suddenly thrust by an external force into a vast expanse of change can bring all of your human vulnerabilities to the surface.

It’s in those moments when you need all the inner resources you can draw on. You see your ability to create success in life isn’t just about actively directing the forces of creation from a powerf ul internal position (although that is essential). You also need the ability to manage and respond to cycle of change in the world around you from as much grace, love, and compassion as possible.

Interestingly enough, the elemental forces can help you do just that. Each element (Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Spirit) develops your core strength in powerful ways that assist you in directing the energy of creation in your life as well as supporting your ability to manage external events. Learning how each one functions and learning to work with their tools can help you navigate when you find yourself in a sea of change.

Here are three simple things you can do when you need inner strength to manage change:

Spend 15 minutes in Nature: Immersing yourself, even for small periods of time, in the natural world connects you to the essence of creation. This will energize your ability to think innovatively and creatively about how to effectively transform any situation in which you may find yourself. It also helps to calm your nervous system. If you need to balance yourself or find creative insights to enliven any area of your life spend time in nature.

Move to release pent up energy or fear about what you are experiencing: Go for a walk, dance, ride a bike, do something physical to help you move the energy.

Open to the guiding wisdom of the natural world: Deepening your capacity to listen to the wisdom and guidance found in the natural world and you discover ways to access more intuition, awareness, and insight that can direct you in every area of life. Simply opening and appreciating the natural world is the best place to begin.

  • If you need help on the physical level connect to the element of Earth.
  • If emotional balance is what you need call on Water.
  • Connect to Air if you need clarity of thought or an expanded perspective around the situation.
  • Fire will help you take the actions you need to take.
  • And finally, call on Spirit to increase your grace and trust in the cycle of life.

Celebrated elemental wisdom teacher, author, and Natural Rhythms president, Lisa Michaels teaches you how to connect with the profound power of Nature so you can dramatically increase your ability to thrive in every area of life. Rampant Overwhelm

My friend and colleague, Jeanna Gabellini, wrote this terrific article on overwhelm and I wanted to share it with you:

I’ve been writing about it for years. I coach clients on this topic every week. I watch colleagues fizzle under its pressure. Business owners are run by it. Everyone reacts to it ungracefully. It’s running rampant in the world.
It’s called overwhelm.
Overwhelm is a perspective, not a thing that comes and gets you out of nowhere. All overwhelm is self-imposed.
Now, overwhelm is no stranger to me. I’ve experienced it in extreme quantities in my business and my personal life. I went through several coaches who tried to have me implement time management strategies to cope with the overwhelming thoughts of all I had to do to keep my business running. It didn’t work. In fact, it made me more stressed. I thought, “I must really be a failure. I’m doing what my coach is telling me and I still feel like I’m going to have a heart attack.”

Guess what? The coaches’ advice only gave me half of the equation to my solution. No strategy in the world was going to kill off the feeling of overwhelm if I didn’t change my beliefs about what “had” to get done. I also had to look inside myself to see what I thought made up my definition of success in business and as a woman in general.

Some of the beliefs I had to chuck out the window were:
Before I leave on a trip, the entire house needs to be cleaned.
My success hinges on being able to check off everything on my to do list.
I have to have a “perfect” website in order to attract ideal clients and reach my targeted income.
I have to attend every networking meeting and follow up on every lead, even if I don’t want to.
I must read all of the latest business and personal growth books and attend seminars whenever possible in order be successful.
If the big dogs in my industry do something, I must follow their lead, even if it’s uncomfortable.
When having a party I have to have a theme, make at least a dozen dishes, have fabulous party favors and really WOW my guests.
I HAVE to make several types of cookies, wrap them in elegant packaging and hand deliver to ALL of my friends that I don’t buy gifts for during the holidays.
I must buy everyone I love gifts for their birthday and holidays so that they know how much I appreciate them.
Phew! I’m overwhelmed just thinking about all the things I used to believe! No wonder I was having a hard time.
The sure fire way to break the habit of overwhelm, and it IS a habit, is to focus on the essence of the desired end result and create strategies for flow. For instance, I used to go to networking meetings to get new clients. The essence of what I wanted was to meet new people and attract clients that I loved. Were their other ways to get that outcome without attending several meetings and cold calling leads? Of course!

I decided to only attend my favorite meeting and followed up on warm leads only. I loved the networking group I chose and felt no pressure to be a hard sell. I ended up coaching many of the group members over the years as a result. I even threw away a six-inch stack of leads that had been sitting by the phone for months that made me feel like a procrastinating loser.

I then let go of the belief that networking needed to be my main avenue of attracting clients and they came in by the bucket load from referrals and my website. Trusting that you will get your desired outcome without being attached to a specific process or strategy will ease overwhelm in a jiffy.
Investigate what beliefs, actions and habits are creating your state of overwhelm. Notice what triggers your overwhelm. Then begin creating new rules about what it means to be a success. If I’m enjoying what I’m doing, with no pressure, I’m a success. Period.
